Social media planner 2027: plan your posts and content for the year
You open Instagram. You stare at it. You think “I really should post something”. Then you scroll for twenty minutes and post nothing. Sound familiar? A social media planner fixes that, because you decide what to post before you pick up your phone.
Here’s how to plan your social media and content for 2027 without it taking over your life.
Start with what you’re selling
Social media for a small business has one job: to help people find you, like you and buy from you. So before you plan a single post, write down what you’re selling each month of 2027. Your launches, your sales, your busy seasons.
Once you know that, you know what your posts are leading up to.
Add the dates people are already talking about
Mother’s Day, Halloween, Black Friday, back to school, bank holidays. People are already thinking about these, so they’re easy things to post about. I’ve listed them in key marketing dates 2027. Pick the ones that fit your business and ignore the rest.
Plan a month at a time
Plan the big things for the whole year. Then plan your posts one month at a time. A year of posts is too much to plan in one go, and a week at a time leaves you scrambling.
For each month, write down:
- What you’re selling or talking about this month
- What your customers are thinking about this month
- The dates you’ll post about
- How often you’ll post, and where
Your 2027 content calendar
A content calendar is your social media plan put onto dates: what goes out on which day. Keep it simple. If you post three times a week, give each day a type of post. For example:
- Monday: something useful (a tip, a how-to)
- Wednesday: behind the scenes (you, your work, your day)
- Friday: what you’re selling (an offer, a product, a happy customer)
Then you’re never starting from nothing. You just fill in the slot.
Have a list of ideas for the stuck days
Everyone has days when nothing comes. Keep a list of ideas you can grab: questions customers ask you, mistakes people make, your favourite thing you sell, how you got started, a before and after.
Check what worked
At the end of each month, look back. Which posts got people commenting, messaging or buying? Do more of those next month.

Your questions
What should a social media planner include?

Plan the big things for the whole year (your launches, sales and busy seasons), then plan your posts a month at a time. That’s far enough ahead to be ready, and close enough to stay relevant.
